1. AS/400 Requirements
----------------------
The following items should be read and followed carefully by AS/400 system
administrators ONLY. All other users may skip to Item 2.

1.1 Required OS Level and PTFs
---------------------------------
The IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Software is only supported on AS/400s running
V4R2M0 or later. All previous OS levels must first be upgraded prior to
using this software.

In addition, the following Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs) MUST BE INSTALLED
on the AS/400 in order for the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Driver to work
properly on clients workstations:

-- Cumulative PTF Package C8045420 or later
 -- PTF MF18398
 -- PTF MF18450

These PTFs should be installed and applied BEFORE beginning any TCP/IP over
Twinax configuration on the host or clients. If AS/400 doesn't have these
PTFs, they can be obtained through IBM's normal PTF ordering channels.
Additions or modifications to the above PTF list will appear in subsequent
updates of this README file. (Point User back to WEB info)

1.2 Host Configuration Program
-------------------------------
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all AS/400 System Administrators download and
run the AS/400 TCP/IP over Twinax Configuration Program BEFORE
installing the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Software on any workstations. This
program guides the User through the steps necessary to configure the AS/400 for
operation with the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Software. Included in this
program is information on:

-- How to choose the proper TCP/IP Address Ranges for the AS/400
    and Twinax Workstations
-- How to Configure the TDLC line and interface to work with the
           Twinax Workstations
-- How to set several AS/400 parameters critical to the
    operation of TCP/IP over Twinax

To obtain this program, visit http://www.networking.ibm.com/525tcpip/index.html and follow
the instructions for downloading.

2. Several Tips for a Smoother Installation
--------------------------------------------

TIP #1. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE USER INSTALL THE IBM 5250 EXPRESS ADAPTER IN
THE COMPUTER BEFORE RUNNING THE SETUP PROGRAM FOUND ON THE IBM 5250
        EXPRESS TCP/IP SETUP DISKETTE.

TIP #2. IF INSTALLING AN IBM 5250 EXPRESS ISA PnP ADAPTER ON A COMPUTER
RUNNING MICROSOFT NT 4.0, THE USER MUST RECONFIGURE THE ADAPTER FOR
NON-PnP (Plug and Play) MODE BEFORE RESTARTING THE COMPUTER. SEE
THE INFORMATION THAT CAME WITH THE ADAPTER FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW
TO RECONFIGURE THE ISA ADAPTER FOR NON-PnP MODE.

TIP #3. DURING INSTALLATION USER PROMPTS WILL ASK FOR A STATION ADDRESS
FOR THE IBM 5250 EXPRESS ADAPTER. CONSULT WITH THE AS/400
ADMINISTRATOR AND OBTAIN A STATION ADDRESS PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE
        ADAPTER.

TIP #4. THE USER MAY BE ASKED FOR THE DISKETTES OR CD-ROM FROM WHICH THE
MICROSOFT OPERATING SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED. THESE SHOULD BE ON HAND
PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE IBM 5250 TCP/IP SOFTWARE DRIVER.

TIP #5. OCCASIONALLY, THE COMPUTER MAY HAVE A MORE RECENT VERSION OF A FILE
THAN CONTAINED ON THE DISKETTES OR CD-ROM FROM WHICH THE USER'S
OPERATING SYSTEM WAS LOADED. IN THIS CASE, DURING FILE COPIES, THE
OPERATING SYSTEM WILL ASK, WHAT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN. WHEN THIS
OCCURS, SELECT "YES" TO KEEP THE MORE RECENT FILE.

TIP #6. THE IBM 5250 EXPRESS TCP/IP SETUP PROGRAM USES THE CONTROL PANEL
"NETWORK" AND "ADD NEW HARDWARE" WIZARDS. WHEN CLICKING ON "OK" TO
END THESE WIZARDS, THE OPERATING SYSTEM MAY PROMPT USER TO SHUTDOWN
        AND RESTART THE COMPUTER.

WHEN THIS OCCURS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

SELECT "NO" (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!)

THIS WILL RETURN CONTROL TO THE IBM DRIVER SETUP PROGRAM.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALLOW SETUP TO COMPLETE ITS OPERATION NORMALLY.
WHEN SETUP HAS COMPLETED ITS WORK, USERS WILL BE PROMPTED TO SHUTDOWN
        AND RESTART THE COMPUTER MANUALLY.

TIP #7. UPON SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION OF THE TCP/IP DRIVER, DURING REBOOT
THE COMPUTER WILL BEEP 3 TIMES. THIS WILL TELL USER THAT THE DRIVER
LOADED AND A TCP/IP COMMUNICATIONS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO THE
        AS/400 HOST.

3. How To Run the IBM 5250 Express TCP/IP Setup Program
